CERTIFICATE COURSE IN EVIDENCE BASED DIABETES MANAGEMENT (CCEBDM)

The course is a joint certification by Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialties Center, Chennai, delivered by Public Health Foundation of India and it is supported with an educational grant by MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., India.

Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), Chennai a unit of Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre, has now been recognized by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Brussels (Belgium) as an IDF Center of Education for 2009-2013 and is one of only six Centers recognized by IDF worldwide.

CCEBDM is a uniquely designed once - a - month executive training program for primary health care physicians with twelve study Modules spread over 12 months. It is to apprise the physicians with latest developments in the field of diabetes management and to deal with it more efficiently in their day to day undertakings.

Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management journey so far:

CCEBDM: Cycle I (Aug 2010 - Jul 2011) which was launched on 8th August 2010 in 57 cities across 18 states all over the country has been successfully completed. The core groups involved in the course were the National Experts, Regional Faculty, Observers and Participants. A panel of 15 National Experts (nationally and internationally acclaimed Diabetologists & Endocrinologists) were involved in curriculum review and helped in deciding course modalities. A group of 128 Regional Faculty who are prominent Diabetologists & Endocrinologists in their area, were choosen to train candidates in 100 centres. There were 72 single trainer centers & 28 merged centers with two Regional Faculty. The ratio of trainer to participant was 1:8-10. The course had an enrollment of 1208 participants. Of these, 61 percent were medical graduates and 39 percent were post graduate with a degrees in various specializations. A network of 61 eminent Observers from all over the country were involved in regular monitoring of the Program.

CCEBDM: Cycle II (Dec 2011 - Nov 2012) was launched on 11th December 2011 in 65 cities across 19 states and 1 Union Territory all over the country which is currently running all over the country. The core groups involved in the course are the National Experts, Regional Faculty, Observers and Participants. The National Expert panel has 15 eminent nationally and internationally acclaimed Diabetologists & Endocrinologists who have been a part of the curriculum revision and update for the new cycle. A group of 149 Regional Faculty are involved in training 1568 candidates in 119 centres this cycle. There are 89 single trainer centers & 30 merged centers with(two Regional Faculty). The ratio of trainer to participant is 1:10-12. 52 percent of the participants enrolled have an MBBS degree and 48 percent have completed post graduation. A network of 84 eminent Observers from all over the country is actively involved in monitoring of the Program.

The program is regularly monitored by PHFI. This is critical for successful implementation of the programme as it will synthesize evidence regarding the challenges faced by centre faculty & participants as well as it brings up modifications and suggested improvements for the course curriculum. The timely solutions to the challenges are crucial to maintain interest and reduce attrition of the physicians enrolled in the program. The M & E plan also serves as a mechanism for supportive supervision for the successful conduct of the contact sessions being held every month during the program. This component will also aid in gaining experience for successfully scaling the certification program in the coming years.
